We understand that sometimes unfortunate circumstances occur in life that require someone to have to give up their beloved family pet. We understand that parting ways with your pet can be especially difficult and we’re committed to working with you to ensure the best possible solution for you and your pet.
Please call the shelter at 707-645-7905 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays, to make an appointment to discuss surrendering your pet, so we can ensure we have kennel space available, and that your pet is suitable for our adoption program, or for one of our rescue partners.
When you bring your pet to surrender, please bring the following:
- A driver’s license or other government issued ID.
- Your pet’s veterinary records.
- Your pet’s surrender fee. The cost to care for and re-home pets can be hundreds of dollars for each animal (vaccines, microchips, food, and general care). We ask for a $90 surrender fee to help cover this cost.
Please arrive to your appointment 15 minutes early to complete the forms. Our goal is to find a happy home for every healthy and treatable animal, which we can achieve by knowing more about the animals that come into our care.
Please note that the Humane Society of the North Bay is a nonprofit animal shelter with limited kennel and cage space — we do our best to accept surrendered pets, but planning as far ahead as possible will help ensure the best outcome for your pet.
